Boiler & Pressure Plant Insurance

This Policy covers damage other than by fire, to
1. The boilers & pressure vessels.
2. The Surrounding Property, up to fixed limits, arising due to explosion & collapse of the pressure plant During normal course of working
3. Third Party legal liability, up to fixed limits, arising due to death or bodily injury to third parties, damage to property of third parties (not held in trust or on commission) caused by and solely due to explosion or collapse occurring in the course of ordinary working.

Scope of Cover

Damage (Other than by fire) to the boiler or pressure vessel described in the schedule and to other property of the Insured.

Liability of the Insured at law for damage to property not belonging to the Insured.

Liability of the Insured at law on account of fatal or non-fatal injuries to any persons other than the Insured’s own employees or workmen of members of the Insured’s family.

Damage caused by an solely due to explosion or collapse as hereinafter defined of any boiler or pressure vessel described in the Schedule whilst in the course of ordinary working.

Provided that the total liability of Company in respect of any one boiler or pressure vessel in any one year of insurance shall not exceed the limit of Indemnity set opposite thereto in the Schedule.

Provided also that in case of any claim against the Insured for damages as aforesaid the Company will in addition pay all costs and expenses recovered by any claimant against the Insured or incurred with the written consent of the Company in resisting such claim.

Key features

It cannot be issued on agreed value basis.

Escalation benefit is not allowed & not issued on first loss basis.

The term `Boiler' where used includes fittings, integral super heaters and integral economizers but does not include steam or feed water piping, separate super heaters, separate economizers, such items being covered in the policy only if specifically listed in the Schedule.

Warranties incorporated during the currency of the policy:

The Boilers and Pressure Plants described in the schedule are annually inspected by inspectors appointed by the Government except where there is no statutory requirement for Government inspection; the inspections are to be carried out by independent competent persons.

The Boilers and pressure plant described in the schedule shall only be operated by attendants holding a valid certificate of competency issued under the appropriate Boiler Act.

The insured shall be in possession of the unqualified permission in writing of the competent inspecting authority to operate the said boilers and pressure plant.

If the maximum pressure of load upon safety valve immediately prior to any explosion or collapse was in excess of that stipulated by the said authority the insured shall not be entitled to any compensation or Indemnity under this policy in respect of such explosion or collapse.

Willful act, willful damage or gross negligence
